Easter Woodland Development Weekend ~ 3 - 10 April 2026

The main tasks for the week were the construction of a new timber-framed shelter to house the steam-bending equipment, and some woodland management work in the new plantations to protect and enhance the trees.
The new timber-frame was made by Andy and Justin entirely from Sallerton Wood timber. The frame was afterwards assembled by Andy, Jane and their son Tom. Tom proved himself very useful, particularly when it came to jumping up to fit the roof trusses!
The woodland management team (Jane, Lesley and Mike) fixed 60 tree guards onto new Larch and Wild Cherry saplings and then then went on to trim off the lower branches of the young Sweet Chestnuts planted about 6 years ago.

Some Winter activities 2025-2026

A noticeboard made from Sallerton Wood Chestnut and Larch installed at Weir Quay. Commissioned by the Parish Council.

A lot of trees have come down during the storms this winter, but at least it does give a good opportunity for producing firewood!
