JANE, our Forest School Leader, is a fully qualified Level 3 Forest School practitioner, and is the organiser and leader of all sessions, ensuring an engaging and safe session for all. She has enjoyed teaching Forest School in the woods and at local primary schools for the past 7 years.
ANDY often helps as well and is our Green Wood Craft course tutor and woodworking expert, with superb knowledge of trees and all things natural.
Both of us are Outdoor Paediatric First Aid trained.
(See the Contact Us page for more information about the Leaders.)
Those wishing to take part just need to book in with us in advance through the booking form in the Forest School Calendar below. Please note that places are limited and booking in advance is essential. Contact details in case of queries are given on the Contact Us page of the website. Block booking of sessions is encouraged to secure your regular space (and save you money).
At present, two type of Forest School session are offered:
Babes in the Wood (for accompanied 0-5 year-olds)
Family Day events (for whole families)
Babies and young children are hugely stimulated by being out in the woodland environment as they discover a whole host of sensory wonders; fresh air, breeze, water in the steam, earth, mud & clay, dappled sunshine through the tree canopy, flying & crawling insects, crunchy leaves and the warmth and flickering light of the fire to name a few. These regular weekly sessions will quickly turn your tot into an outdoors-loving littl’n!
Bring along whatever snacks you need which can be taken whenever you wish during the session.

A brilliant mix of social, free play and planned crafty and adventurous woodland activities, using the natural resources around us is what these sessions are all about. The wood-fuelled rocket stoves are available for hot drinks and everyone brings their own packed lunch.Sometimes we cook popcorn or dough twists over the fire too.
Sometimes it's tricky to find the time to JUST STOP and take time out in nature, however much we want to. We set up the Family Day events when our son was a toddler to make us do just that, so we could remind ourselves how much enjoyment and relaxation we can take from the woods AND WE JUST LOVE THESE SESSIONS! We want our Family Day events to be inclusive. They represent excellent value for money, with one 'all-in' price for the whole family, so you don’t need to feel anyone should stay behind at home because of extra cost.

The preferred payment method is bank transfer (details will be sent to you when you book), but other methods include cash on the day or card payment via the PayPal Donate facility at the bottom of this page.
Block bookings are very much encouraged for Forest School sessions as these are best done continuously to help the children and their adults gain confidence socially and in learning to enjoy the woodland environment to the full, in all weathers and seasons. This method of payment also SAVES YOU MONEY!
The location is given on the Location page of this website.
The atmosphere is relaxed, responding to whatever the trees, wildlife, stream and weather engages us in on the day! There are also planned seasonal activities for everyone to enjoy if they wish to join in. Organised activities are always led and overseen by Jane/Andy but please note that accompanying adult(s) are responsible for looking after their own children at all times in the woods.
Regular activities include paddling and dam building in the stream, den building, low-level tree climbing, baking in the clay oven and craft creations with natural materials including playing and modelling with clay, leaf art, making natural paints and our own brushes with hazel .... to name a few! There are endless possibilities using the natural environment and materials that surround us and sessions are often very much interest led. Whilst we always have some planned activities, free play is also a key element, enhancing socialisation and creating a completely non-threatening play space full of exciting challenge and inspiration for everyone and giving the adults a chance to relax too!
A complete change of clothes and footwear is recommended, including welly boots for all. There are several sturdy shelters available as well as a compost loo, if needed. Hot and cold running natural spring water, clay rocket stoves and fire pits are all here to help you enjoy your time with us in the woods. A hot drink brewed up on the woodland wood-fired rocket stoves or over the camp fire is always included for adults and children.
